I decided to study at NBS due to the good ranking held by both the Masters I was interested in and by NTU. Also, I visited Nottingham before my studies and I really liked the idea of spending a year in this beautiful city.
What key skills have you developed during your studies?
My postgraduate studies helped me a lot to develop myself both personally and professionally. Now, I feel more confident because I managed to effectively handle all the challenges related to a Masters degree for an international student (e.g. homesickness, communication gap, many deadlines) and build my personal resilience. Apart from that, my academic supervisor and my tutors encouraged me throughout and helped me to greatly enhance my critical thinking skills.
In Semester Three, what option did you pick to do as part of your ‘Major Project’ and why?
I picked the Consultancy Experience Project as I consider it to be an amazing opportunity for me to both gain work experience and further enhance my teamwork skills.
How does Nottingham Business School provide you with support, advice and guidance?
First of all, my academic tutor was really supportive during the year, especially at the very start of my Masters, she helped me a lot to gain a deeper understanding of the course’s expectations and the importance of being critical. She also made me feel comfortable, encouraged me to freely express my feelings throughout and asked for my feedback to ensure that everything was on the right track.
Moreover, my tutors were really close to me, always willing to support me and provide me with further guidance when needed. Finally, when I encountered some health issues, NTU accepted my request to get an extension, which helped me to maintain the quality of my work.

MSc International Business (Dual Award)
When choosing a Business School and Masters degree to study, it was important to me that the institution was accredited, had a good ranking, operated in a multicultural environment and offered scholarships. All of which I found at NBS. What stood out for me was the MSc International Business Dual Award programme, but also all they key features offered by NBS such as the employability team, the study environment and student support.
The key feature offered for Dual Award students is the opportunity to study abroad for a semester, it is very important in my opinion as living abroad can develop multicultural awareness which is crucial for international business.
What key skills have you developed?
I have developed a lot more confidence while studying at NBS and I believe my communication and cultural awareness have improved thanks to the diversity of the students enrolled on my course.
Will the MSc International Business Dual Award set you apart in the job market?
I think obtaining two Masters degrees in 15 months will make me stand out as it is an intense programme. The time spent abroad is also beneficial to my career as it gives me a wider appreciation of global culture and knowledge.
I feel the Dual Award will give me more credibility and make my profile more competitive in the international business field. I am a native French speaker and I decided to study in the UK and study abroad in Taiwan. This level of international exposure has shown that I can adapt to a different working environment. It also demonstrates my academic resilience which I hope will appeal to the job market.
Finally, in one sentence, how would you describe your experience of studying a Masters degree at NBS?
It is an intense and positive experience that develops many professional skills thanks to the teaching and all they key features available to NBS students.

I saw a huge potential for personal and professional growth here at NBS in terms of accreditation and opportunities which was proven beyond my expectations. The teaching goes beyond and works on developing your mind-set to take into consideration different viewpoints and strategies of business. I believe it has made me far more efficient and effective in my way of thinking and working.
Can you explain a little about your course? Is it what you expected? What do you enjoy?
My course is far more than I expected in a good way, I assumed it would be a lot of reading and regurgitating information into reports, essentially ticking boxes in order to complete my degree. I believe it has made me far more efficient and effective in my way of thinking and working.

The significant factors which I considered were the ranking and an exceptional student experience. The tuition fee was moderate and the university is situated at the heart of one of the most affordable cities in the UK. The AACSB and CFA accreditation's played a vital role in my decision.

The Masters degree at NBS offered exactly what I was looking for in terms of core modules. I wanted to study a Masters degree in order to widen my scope of knowledge in Finance and Accounting.
I found it extremely interesting because the course is based on practical experience rather than theoretical studies. The Business Research Project was the best opportunity provided by NTU. This gave me the experience of different research methodologies and was a step forward to my dream of becoming a researcher.
Some key highlights of the course included the fact that it encompasses both academic and social activities, which has helped developed my international persona.
Seminars are more interactive because students are always encouraged to work in groups to discuss real-life case studies, scenarios, and current events. The fact that NBS has work based learning that enhanced my understanding and application of knowledge and skills that businesses across the globe require and face.

MSc Economics
I wanted a master’s degree that would help me achieve my goal of becoming a consultant economist. When looking at universities, my research showed that NBS combined academic excellence with practical application during its teaching. The MSc Economics degree gave me in-depth knowledge, understanding and the key soft skills expected of a graduate and readily prepared me for the business world.

I wanted a master’s degree that would help me achieve my goal of becoming a consultant economist. When looking at universities, my research showed that NBS combined academic excellence with practical application during its teaching.
Is there anything that stood out on your course that wasn’t offered elsewhere?
Yes. The dedicated Employability Team at NTU opened a lot of doors for me to connect with employers for potential job opportunities. In addition, the personalisation of the course really appealed to me. NBS offered “experiential learning” with the option to choose a Major Project in your final semester such as a Consultancy Experience Project or Business Research Project. It really gives you flexibility on how you study and what you get out of it.
What was your Major Project choice and why?
I chose to do the Business Research Project and my area of research was discovering ways of reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the UK food supply chain. My research questions were centred on how many carbon dioxide emissions the UK food supply chain was responsible for when importing food from countries in Africa, Asia and Europe.
Describe what your seminars were like and how they differed from your undergraduate experience?
My seminars were much more interactive and participative than during my undergraduate studies. During my time at NBS, I found my seminars were explicitly linked to today’s business environment. The seminars tested and developed practical skills by developing my learning through case studies, econometric software, big data, economic report writing and presentations, both individually and in groups.
What are the key skills you developed studying at NBS?
I have really developed my communication, report writing, analytical and econometric skills. What helped this was working through the course with big data, specialist software whilst constantly using critical thinking, problem solving and presentation skills.
What clubs, societies or other activities were you been involved in at Nottingham Trent University?
Quite a few! I was a Student Ambassador and supported NTU at open days and during telephone campaigns with prospective students.
